Born this day in 1812, Frances Flora Bond Palmer,her professional name was Fanny Palmer. Palmer was a professional artist who worked for the famous print makers Currier and Ives who created lithographs of American Life. Above are examples of Palmer's art work. She was creating these scenes out her imagination with some sketching done after riding out to Long Island. Palmer did not have a proper training in art but her talent was her own. Palmer became a working artist out of need to support her family. In 1851, she was hired by Nathaniel Currier. Fanny Palmer was the hardest working artist in 19th century America who never received the recognition she truly deserved. Palmer's artwork decorated the walls of millions of American homes and little did they know their lovely lithos were by a woman.
