WELCOME

Women, this blog is a celebration of our collective history through the ages and throughout the world. Amazing stories that have been buried in dusty corners away from the light. Help us to shed light on all these amazing stories. Read our blog and then visit us at the Women's Mercury to learn about our ongoing projects.

BEINGWOMAN AND THE WOMEN'S MERCURY OUR MISSION

To challenge women in the local, national and international communities to find their voices, share their stories, and pass them to the next generation of women through participation in the arts.

Born this day in 1854, Rhoda Holmes Nicholls, visual artist. Born in England, Nicholls studied at the Bloomsbury School of Art, awarded the Queen's scholarship. Studied in Rome, Italy and was one of a handful of women who were admitted into the Rome Watercolor Society. A move to New York City was due to her marriage to fellow artist Burr H. Nicholls. Rhoda's art is bright, unique and very compelling. Rhoda was an instructor at The Students Art League of New York, a member of the New York Water Color Club, member of the American of Miniature Painters and the American Water Color Society and was co-editor of Palette and Brush.
Nicholls was one of the great woman artists who carved her way into the art world mostly dominated by men. Talent is talent.
