Emma Lazarus July 22nd

Born this day in 1849 Emma Lazarus, poet. Lazarus is best known for her poem "The New Colossus", that is engraved at the foot of the Statue of Liberty.

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!

These words echo the story of who is, America. May we never forget.

Seneca Falls Convention July 19th

On this day in 1848, 300 women and men, gathered together for The Seneca Falls Convention. The topic, Women's Rights, the reason, to determine the path that would lead to women obtaining Women's Rights, and it did to include Suffrage. The convention leaders who organized the two day convention, Lucretia Mott, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. There were six sessions, with topics from the humorous to the serious role of women in society.
The women also prepared two documents; the Declaration of Sentiments and a list of resolutions to be debated and modified before being presented for signatures. This moment in her-story is seen as the moment that the Women's Movement in the United States began her long and ongoing journey to equality.

Jane Austen Molly Brown July 18th

In 1817 Jane Austen died. But, the children she
left behind have given great comfort, joy and laughter.
"Pride and Prejudice", "Emma", "Persuasion"; to
name a few of the dears.

The unsinkable Molly Brown was born this day in
1867. The Titanic sank but, Molly did not.

Margaret Knight , Geraldine Ferraro July 12th

On this day in 1859, William Goodale is credited with the invention of paper bag manufacturing machine-and he did have a patent, BUT, Margaret Knight invented the paper bag manufacturing machine which is still in use today. The reason for pointing this fact out, the paper bag many assume it is Goodale's when in fact it is Margaret Knight's invention.

On this day in 1984, Geraldine Ferraro became the first woman majority-party Vice Presidential candidate.
