WELCOME

Women, this blog is a celebration of our collective history through the ages and throughout the world. Amazing stories that have been buried in dusty corners away from the light. Help us to shed light on all these amazing stories. Read our blog and then visit us at the Women's Mercury to learn about our ongoing projects.

June 14th

On this day in 1938, Dorothy Lathrop was awarded the very first Caldecott Medal, for her illustrations and art in the book Animals of the Bible, A Picture Book, written by Helen Dean Fish. In 1931, Lathrop received a Newberry Medal Honor for her book The Fairy Circus.
Lathrop loved of creating images of beauty and animals for children's books, but she also created amazing fantasy and fairy tales illustrations. Lathrop images of fairies are so captivating and one feels this artist met in a secret glenn where her fairies modeled for her artwork! Very little is known about Dorothy Lathrop. She died in 1980. I have included several images of her work because it is truly magical and some how her work is over looked.

On this day in 1984, the Southern Baptist convention decided, NO women clergy members.

On this day in 1989, Zsa Zsa Gabor was arrested to for slapping Beverly Hills motorcycle patrolman!

On this day in 1993, Tansu Ciller became the first woman premier of Turkey.
